This for you Whovians, been collecting all this info to keep it straight and I organized it to make it presentable. I had to interpret a lot, especially the Sonic Screwdriver information. I believe this is the best framework to describe the process and growth of these devices. DOCTOR WHO 1st Doctor, called The First Doctor William Hartnell Original Generation 2nd Doctor, called The Second Doctor Patrick Troughton 1st Regeneration 3rd Doctor, called The Third Doctor Jon Pertwee 2nd Regeneration 4th Doctor, called The Fourth Doctor Tom Baker 3rd Regeneration 5th Doctor, called The Fifth Doctor Peter Davidson 4th Regeneration 6th Doctor, called The Sixth Doctor Colin Baker 5th Regeneration 7th Doctor, called The Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy 6th Regeneration 8th Doctor, called The Eighth Doctor Paul McGann 7th Regeneration 9th Doctor, called The War Doctor John Hurt 8th Regeneration 10th Doctor, called The Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccelston 9th Regeneration 11th Doctor, called The Tenth Doctor David Tennent 10th Regeneration 11th Regeneration, kept previous body 12th Doctor, called The Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith 12th Regeneration 13th Doctor, called The Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi 13th Regeneration, a New Cycle THE DOCTORS COMPANIONS Susan Foreman Barbara Wright Ian Chesterton Vicki Steven Taylor Katrina Sara Kingdom Dodo Chaplet Polly Ben Jackson Jamie Mcrimmon Victoria Waterfield Zoe Heriot Brigidaire Lethbridge-Stewart Liz Shaw Jo Grant Sarah Jane Smith Sergeant John Benton Captain Mike Yates Harry Sullivan Leela K-9 mark 1 K-9 mark 2 Ramona Adric Nyssa Tegan Jovanka Vislor Turlough Kamelion Peri Brown Melanie Bush Dorthy Ace McShane Grace Halloway Chang Lee Rose Tyler Adam Mitchell Jack Harkness Mickey Smith Donna Noble Martha Jones Astrid Peth Jackson Lake Rositta Farisi Lady Christina de Souza Adelaide Brook Wilfred Mott Amy Pond Rory Williams Arthur Owens River Song Craig Owens Clara Oswin Oswald SONIC SCREWDRIVERS (Sonic) Model: Mark 1 Design: Original Doctor: 1st & 2nd Emitter: Recessed White Crystal Diode Mechanic: Base Switch Body: Silver Smooth Tube Handle: Silver Smooth Tube Base: Silver Smooth Tube Details: This device resembles an earth utility device called a penlight, which might be purposeful in design. It was made by the 1st Doctor out of boredom, according to the 10th Doctor, and he possibly regretted it at the time, desiring to spend time wooing a women instead. It didnt have many applications in that form. This model was recovered and used by the 8th Doctor in one circumstance, which indicates that it was accessible beyond the 1st and 2nd Doctors, possibly even currently. Model: Mark 2 Design: New Doctor: 3rd Emitter 1: Silver Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 2: Red Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 3: Black Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 4: Red & Black Hollow Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Mechanic: Upper Body Retractable as Switch, Interchangeable Emitters Body: Black & Yellow Stripes w/ Red & Silver Upper Conical Mount Handle: Silver w/ Ridged Detail Base: Ridged Silver w/ Groove Details: The emitter 1 module was primarily deployed with this model. This was the first major redesign of the sonic screwdriver and would inform future variants through many of the Doctors lives. The Black and Yellow stripes were eventually removed, creating the Mark 2a variant. Model: Mark 2a Design: Variant Mark 2 Doctor: 4th Emitter 1: Silver Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 2: Red Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 3: Black Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 4: Red & Black Hollow Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Mechanic: Upper Body Retractable as Switch, Interchangeable Emitters Body: Silver w/ Upper Conical Mount Handle: Silver w/ Upper Conical Ridged Detail Base: Ridged Silver w/ Groove Details: The emitter 4 module was primarily deployed with this model variant. This was eventually modified by the 5th Doctor, which added applications, and a white stripe was added to the Handle, which created the Mark 2b Variant, which would be eventually broken by the 5th Doctor. Model: Mark 2b Design: Modified Variant Mark 2 Doctor: 5th Emitter 1: Silver Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 2: Red Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 3: Black Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 4: Red & Black Hollow Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Mechanic: Upper Body Retractable as Switch, Interchangeable Emitters Body: Silver w/ Upper Conical Mount Handle: Silver w/ Upper Conical Ridged Detail & White Stripe Base: Ridged Silver Base w/ Groove Details: The emitter 2 module was primarily deployed with this model variant. This model was broken by the 5th Doctor, who chose not to repair or rebuild another, and instead utilized other equipment and alternate sonic devices throughout his years. The 5th, 6th and 7th Doctors had access to the ability to repair or rebuild the Mark 2, but didnt do so until the 7th Doctor near the end of his life, involved in matters related to the Master, cobbled together the Mark 2c variant. Model: Mark 2c Design: Rebuilt Variant Mark 2 Doctor: 7th & 8th Emitter 1: Silver Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 2: Red Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 3: Black Solid Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Emitter 4: Red & Black Hollow Bullet w/ Red Circular Housing Mechanic: Upper Body Retractable as Switch, Interchangeable Emitters Body: Silver w/ Upper Conical Mount Handle: Silver w/ Upper Conical Ridged Detail & Brass Stripe Base: Ridged Silver Base w/ Groove, w/ Viewing Light Details: The emitter 3 module was primarily deployed with this model variant. The 7th Doctor chose to rebuild this one from parts in storage within the Tardis, to facilitate matters related to the transport of the Master who was held prisoner in the Tardis. This ultimately led to the 7th Doctors death and delayed and retarded regeneration into the 8th Doctor, who used the Mark 2c variant for a very long time. This model variant was most likely damaged during the crash of a spacecraft he was on and left the 8th Doctor mortally wounded. Model: Mark 2d Design: Remodel Simplified Mark 2 Doctor: 9th The War Doctor Emitter: Red Crystal Diode Mechanic: Upper Body Retractable as Switch to Expose the Diode for deployment. Body: Silver Handle: Thick Silver w/ Body Nested Within Base: Red Nested Two Tiered Ridge Details: This model variant was a remodel of the Mark 2. It was simplified, removing the modularity of the previous variants, and designed to serve combat functions. The 8th Doctor had previously designed a new model device with a wooden handle, which would eventually become the Mark 3, however; the 9th Doctor, due to the Time War, put that device aside and retrofitted the Mark 2 for combat, leaving the Mark 3 to later use. Model: Mark 3 Design: New Doctor: 10th The Ninth Doctor Emitter: Wide Blue Crystal Diode w/ Silver Mount Mechanic: Body & Mount Retracts Into & Extends From Handle w/ Side Slide Switch Body: Black Twisted Rod Embedded in Clear Tube Housing Handle: Light Tan Colored Wood Base: Silver Attached Mount w/ Black Knob Details: The 8th Doctor designed this model but had left it stored. The device possesses an incredible amount of applications. Far more than what was seen in previous models. The wooden handle turned grey-blue, and formed stress fractures due to age, becoming the Mark 3a variant. Model: Mark 3a Design: Variant Mark 3 Doctor: 11th The Tenth Doctor Emitter: Wide Blue Crystal Diode w/ Silver Mount Mechanic: Body & Mount Retracts Into & Extends From Handle w/ Side Slide Switch Body: Black Twisted Rod Embedded in Clear Tube Housing Handle: Wood Grey-Blue & Cracked Due To Age Base: Silver Attached Mount w/ Black Knob Details: This is virtually the same as the Mark 3 accept for the age of the wooden handle. The 3a was burnt out by the 11th Doctor and the internals were rebuilt almost exactly the same, re-utilizing the aged wooden handle. The wooden handle would age even more, losing all color, becoming the grey handled Mark 3b variant. Model: Mark 3b Design: Rebuilt Variant Mark 3 Doctor: 11th & 12th The Tenth & Eleventh Doctors Emitter: Wide Blue Crystal Diode w/ Silver Mount Mechanic: Body & Mount Retracts Into & Extends From Handle w/ Side Slide Switch Body: Black Twisted Rod Embedded in Clear Tube Housing Handle: Wood Grey & Cracked Due to Age Base: Silver Attached Mount w/ Black Knob Details: The handle of this model variant would become completely ashen at the end of its useful life. Ultimately this variant was damaged from the regeneration process of the 11th Doctor, and despite that damage, the regenerated 12th Doctor, used it to overload technology in an attempt to communicate an alert to some pan dimensional beings. This burnt the device further rendering it useless. This necessitated the need for a new one to be built, which was done by the Tardis herself. Model: Mark 3c Design: Rebuild & Remodel Mark 3 Doctor: 12th The Eleventh Doctor Emitter: Wide Conical Switching Blue & Red, Crystal Diode w/ Ridged, Silver & Copper Wide Mount Mechanic: Body & Mount Retracts Into & Extends From Handle w/ Multiple Switches, and Compartments Body: Black Twisted Rod Embedded in Clear Tube Extended Housing, and Weathered Copper, w/ Neural Relay Compartment Handle: Copper Shaft w/ Exposed External Clear Fluid Shaft and an Attached Identification Ring Base: Dark Translucent Inset w/ Black Knob Details: The Doctor created this variant of the Mark 3, for River Song. Unknown to her the Doctor installed a neural relay which would save her data ghost for uploading into the main computer of an advanced Library. While within this library she would ultimately meet her fated end in the company of the younger 11th Doctor, who had not yet come to know her. Model: Mark 4 Design: New Doctor: 12th The Eleventh Doctor Emitter: Nested Green Crystal Diode W/ Copper Mount & Silver Claw Housing Mechanic: Claw Mount Extends & Widens, & Retracts From Body w/ Side & Bottom Switch Body: Silver & Copper Articulated Sections Handle: Upper Black Leather & Lower Faceted Light Colored Wood Base: Ridged Copper Cap Details: When the Mark 3b was destroyed a new device needed to be built. A crash landed Tardis repaired itself and also provided a new sonic screwdriver for the 12th Doctor. Its structure was a radical new design, but it maintained the core programming of the earlier models, with an impressive array of new applications. Among those applications were the ability to repair itself, and the ability to utilize a psychic interface with the wielder. The model was eventually broken, when half of the device, was bitten off and swallowed by a Skyshark. It would eventually be repaired with virtually no variation, becoming the Mark 4a variant. Model: Mark 4a Design: Repaired Mark 4 Doctor: 12th The Eleventh Doctor Emitter: Nested Green Crystal Diode W/ Copper Mount & Silver Claw Housing Mechanic: Claw Mount Extends & Widens, & Retracts From Body w/ Side & Bottom Switch Body: Silver & Copper Articulated Sections Handle: Upper Black Leather & Lower Faceted Light Colored Wood Base: Ridged Copper Cap Details: The Mark 4 was ultimately repaired with new applications installed. The Doctor gave this model away to a Ganger who was an artificial duplicate of the Doctor. The Doctor rebuilt yet another variant, called the Mark 4b. Model: Mark 4b Design: Rebuilt Doctor: 12th The Eleventh Doctor Emitter: Nested Green Crystal Diode W/ Copper Mount & Silver Claw Housing Mechanic: Claw Mount Extends & Widens, & Retracts From Body w/ Side & Bottom Switch Body: Silver & Copper Articulated Sections Handle: Upper Black Leather & Lower Faceted Light Colored Wood Base: Ridged Copper Cap Details: This model was rebuilt with new applications installed, and was burnt out from overuse. Model: Mark 4c (plus) Design: Rebuilt/Replaced/Repaired Doctor: 12th The Eleventh Doctor Emitter: Nested Green Crystal Diode W/ Copper Mount & Silver Claw Housing Mechanic: Claw Mount Extends & Widens, & Retracts From Body w/ Side & Bottom Switch Body: Silver & Copper Articulated Sections Handle: Upper Black Leather & Lower Faceted Light Colored Wood Base: Ridged Copper Cap Details: The 12th Doctor was well over a thousand years old by the end of his life and it is assumed that his device was repaired, rebuilt, and replaced many times, especially during his time on Trenzalore. Where he had fought a battle for over half a millennium, till his fated end. However fate was twisted by circumstance and it is possible the Mark 4 might have made it into the hands of the newest Doctor. The doctor had already regenerated twelve times, which is the end of a time lords life cycle. During the battle, as he was fated die there, the Gallifreyans while trapped in another dimension, bestowed an additional regenerative cycle of twelve more lives on the Doctor. This allowed him to regenerate a 13th time. The Doctor was able to utilize the tremendous energies of his regeneration to lay waste to his enemies, but in the process, as is historically understood, if was carrying the Mark 4 on his person, it is most likely likely damaged if not destroyed by the release of those energies. The amount of which was equivalent of a multi kiloton bomb.
