So my point is, the expectation that a man must be provider and pay lobola puts him at an advantageous position, and a woman makes her subservient to the man. Thats the root of patriachy, sadly feminists deal with the end result which is patriachy, but not the root cause which is the economic aspect of it, this is where at times they miss the point. In relationships where the woman is the provider you find that such women tend to hold more power, much more if she paid lobola for herself also (it happens). Now people usually say lobola amongst others is used to build friendships and thus must not be treated as leverage by the man against the woman, meaning that in the relationship they remain equals. BULLSHIT! When there is a transaction involved, the one who pays makes the rules. *the customer is always right* principle. True friendships between famiies are usually built around sentimental issues or events or occurences than monetary transactions. If one can buy a child, that child will not be treated the same way as the child gotten thru natural birth. Transaction involved. So, as long as women expect to be lobolad, given hair money, maintained etc. They will always remain victims of patriachy. The man will have more rights in the relationship than the woman. And if he is found cheating, the consequences will be less than what a woman suffers if she is found cheating. Its just economics @ play.
