This group is filled with kind, generous, caring people. Many times, whether it is the homeless, families with nothing to eat, the unemployed looking for work, the members of this group have rallied to help. That is a wonderful thing, and I love you all for it. However, it also makes the generous a target. When I read no social service agency will help...., send cash... it is a red flag. I have worked with many agencies, and there is emergency help, and sometimes within hours. Also, Asbury United Methodist Church works with the homeless, or near homeless on an Emergency basis. So there is help out there. That brings me to Go Fund Me. The really hard sell is another red flag. Anybody can write any name, come up with a story of woe, and go out and try to raise money. I havent had a hard and fast rule about that, so it is time for one. If you are going to post go fund me and try to raise cash, whomever is doing the posting has to verify they are who they say they are. That can be done via a caller ID on a phone, or an address the admins can verify, or a call at place of business that can verify you are who you say you are. It is just prudent. And to those who may think they can pull off a fake name, and raise money online, that is wire fraud, and a federal offense, and I will not hesitate to turn anyone in who is trying to fleece money online. I hope all of you understand. We have to be careful online...
