This guitar was for sale on EBay in September, 2009 This is the complete text that was in the ad. Johnny Ramones 83-88 stage used red Mosrite guitar The Ramones: Own a piece of Rock n Roll History! Starting bid: US $25,000.00 Price: US $32,000.00 Buy It Now This is Johnny Ramones’ actual stage used 1960’s red Mosrite guitar that was in use between 1983 and 1988. It is the only Mosrite that he played in this color during his entire time in The Ramones and one of the few remaining guitars whose whereabouts are known. This is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity to own an authentic piece of rock ‘n roll history from the Godfathers of punk: The Ramones. I acquired this guitar approx. 9 years ago from an art curator in Florida who specializes in rock and roll memorabilia and who later went on to publish the only book about Devo entitled “Are We Not Men? We Are Devo!” in 2003 by SAF Publishing, Ltd. UK. Prior to our exchange, he obtained it from The Ramones Chief of Security, Gene Frawley who in turn received it from Johnny himself when The Ramones were clearing out their storage space at SIR Studios. Gene had Johnny personally autograph it in black sharpie to provide further proof of its authenticity which reads “Best Always, Johnny Ramone 5/22/90”. For those who know anything about The Ramones, they will tell you that Johnny only owned approx. 10 guitars during his 22 years in the band and not all of those were Mosrites. He has been know to play (at one time or another) a Hamer, a Rickenbacker, a few different Fender Stratocasters as well as a few of the Japanese “Pose-rite” reissues that later surfaced in the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s to which he used as back-ups until the final shows. In fact, his white Mosrite Ventures 2 reproduction that was used during the Lollapalooza shows sold in April of 2001 for over $12,000. Of the few remaining guitars that are known to exist, Daniel Rey (who produced several Ramones albums) owns Johnny’s number one white Mosrite and Eddie Vedder owns another white back-up Mosrite while Danny Sage from D Generation owns the black Mosrite. It is also speculated that Rob Zombie owns one of Johnny’s guitars but this has yet to be confirmed. There arent many of these out there as most have been lost or stolen throughout the years. Johnny was seen playing this guitar back in 1983. You can find images of this and several more of his guitars on this website: rockometer/ramones/g_red.html It also appeared 5 years later in 1988 when The Ramones performed a lip-synced version of “I Wanna Be Sedated” for a television show called Club MTV which featured several extreme close ups of Johnny playing it and was hosted by that annoying Downtown Julie Brown, who said they were from New Jersey (!!). Two shots from this performance are included in this listing. I have a copy of this performance on DVD and will be included if you would like. This Mosrite (like all of his others) has been heavily modified by Johnny. He replaced the original whammy bar set up with a stop end tail piece and put in DiMarzio pick ups. There is still evidence of silver duct tape where Johnny taped his strap to the guitar itself to ensure that it wouldnt fall off during a performance. This guitar comes with the original case, an extra set of unopened Dean Markley Blue Steel guitar strings and a NYC Subway map. These items were all originally included and have never been pulled out or separated. With that said, this truly is a one of a kind item that will undoubtedly never come around again during any of our lifetimes. This particular item will only increase in value as the years go on as an important piece of rock ‘n roll history that will be handed down from generation to generation. Kinda like owning one of Elvis’ cars. Not too many people in the world can say that they have seen one, let alone own one. Whoever becomes the 5th owner of this will receive in addition to the guitar, a binder full of all email correspondence between myself and members of The Ramones crew including Monte Melnick (Manager) and Arturo Vega (lighting/art director) who all confirm its authenticity and which I have saved for all of these years. This guitar is in perfect working condition and has been used on a tribute album to The Ramones I released back in 2001 under my former band name Reload called “Glue Sniffin’ Shocker”. This album was mentioned in the April ‘09 edition of Spin Magazine as one of the essential tribute albums to own to The Ramones. A copy of this will also be included to the winning bidder. It is in the same condition as when I received it and has been on display in my private collection for almost a decade. Im not too happy having to part with this but like The Ramones said as they covered The Chambers’ Brothers…. “Time Has Come Today”… Item must be paid for by MONEY ORDER or CASHIERS CHECK ONLY within seven days of close of auction. As a bonus, I will personally deliver this item as I would want to meet its next owner and ensure a safe delivery. I look at it like giving a kid up for adoption…. I just wouldnt put it in a box and send it on its way. Yeah, it means that much to me and it will to its next owner. Email with any questions. Paypal is NOT accepted despite what the listing says. Any reasonable offer is welcome! A Ramones auction is set to take place in 2010 by Juliensauctions Grab this while you can before it goes up on their auction site!
