This guy, Ethan Newberry / Ginger Runner has become a good friend - TopicsExpress

This guy, Ethan Newberry / Ginger Runner has become a good friend within one short year of meeting him at last years Squamish50. When he said that he wanted to step up to the 50/50 distance this year I knew it would present a huge challenge for him, but I also knew that he had it in him and I truly did not doubt him for a second. Its amazing what one faces while overcoming self doubt, and it confronts us all. Some are naturally better at meeting it head on while others have to work at it, day in and day out. Fear and self doubt are powerful, controlling emotions and to see Ethans journey laid out before me in a 28 minute film today was special on so many levels. Im even more proud of the guy today than I was back in August. I think this film is beautiful on so many levels. The Squamish50 is my baby, my f#@ked up evil, squealing, flailing infant that gives you a single hug and a twisted half assed smile after relentlessly clawing at your eyes for hours and hours on end, and somehow thats enough. Somehow in that struggle you find peace, and in that peace you glimpse love. Its not the scenery that keeps people coming back, its not the terrain that keeps people coming back, and its not even the volunteers or the race directors that keep people coming back, its the struggle that people fall head over heals for. You see that throughout this video and I cant thank this guy enough for that. Great job my friend, on the video, on the race and on life.
