This happened awhile ago, but I dont think its ever to late to says thanks. Last year I was working in Duncan as a cashier, usually The Valley people were quite nice, and I enjoyed my job for the most part. One day I was working and I had a family with who I believe the be their disabled son come through my till, I was packing up all their groceries and the man asked me if I could double bag some glass jars, and I said yes of course. As I went to bag them my hand slipped and it made a loud thump on the till. (Nothing broke) he looked at me with the nastiest face and said, Jesus Christ! Break my shit why dont you? I was take back by this as I didnt mean to do anything wrong, so I said, sorry Im not trying to break your things! And he rolled his eyes and huffed, at this point I was overcome with a need to defend myself and said, sir, you do not have to be rude to me. To which he replied, Just be quiet and do your job. Now this made me mad, Im not a slave, so I said, Excuse me? No I am a human I deserve respect! And he got very angry, I said to shut up and do your job! He then grabbed his sons hand and looked me right in the eyes and said, this is what we get from minimum wage. And stormed off leaving his wife. Now I started to tear up and his wife was paying and said, Oh dont worry you probably just made him mad. And I didnt say anything, she took her receipt and left. Now my thanks part is to the lovely and amazing woman behind her, she looked at me and said, stay right there, do not do a thing! She came around the till and hugged me like a mom would, she said, Im so appalled someone would treat you like that, you held your composure so well, and I just want you to know that you are worth so much more than hurtful words people say and you are a beautiful soul, always hold your head high and dont let anyone ever tell you that you arent good enough or beneath them. You are a better person than they will ever be, Which made me cry harder, her compassion for a stranger gave me so much hope. I never really got to say a big thanks so if you are reading this, I dont know your name sadly but thank you! You were the best customer Ive ever had, and your words changed my life, I always go to work with my head high and I am thankful it was you who was there that day. I really appreciate it.
