This happened many years ago...but did you know? This is a photo of Luke Woodham... My friend Joel Myrick was the assistant Principle who stopped him. He bowed over the second girl Luke killed and uttered- God Bless this Child, God Bless this Child, God Bless this child-- there was nothing he could do for her. He then ran out the side door to his truck and grabbed his LEGAL pistol from behind his seat- ran down the street and headed off the escaping Luke Woodham and forced him to run off the road at the point of his pistol. He glared back at me over the steering wheel- he had his war face on. I got him out of the car and held the gun to his head and yelled- Who are you!- Who are you and why are you killing my kids? They guy then said in a quiet voice of a kid- Why Mr. Myrick, you know me- Im the guy that gave you the discount on your pizza the other night. That was the first time I realized that he was one of my own students. If I had only known, If I had only known a couple of days earlier, maybe I could have done something to stop this from happening. We both sat there and quietly sobbed together the first time he told me the story of that morning. High school kids have so much more school, sport and social pressure than they did just 20 years ago-- and in a one parent home where the mom worked double jobs to support them, not doing well in his classes and having his girlfriend (the first person he shot and killed) having just broken his heart; if we had just have known--- but we do know this is out there ....and America is still not doing anything to relieve the social stress on children. Liberal society simply does not keep a dad from leaving, provide a living wage for a two parent family, or support an environment being there for too many of our children. In this case, it was only just one boy-- but we failed him and those he hurt. The only protection for the Jr. High School kids he was headed to kill was Joel Myrick-- Mississippi National Guard Officer-- and his legal gun. God Bless this child, God bless all Children, God bless those who try to do the right thing for them and protect them. I asked Joel why he had his pistol behind the seat of his truck and he said- Because I have the RIGHT to. Then I asked what he thought of those people out there who were trying to take away the Second Amendment Rights- and he quietly uttered--- How horrible for anyone to take away a weak persons ability to protect themselves. Joel was absolutely correct. Joel was and is a quiet, humble, wonderful man and American. We need more people in this country like him.----- If I had only known, If I had only known a couple of days earlier. Pop
