This happened yesterday... Was in a supermarket line with a cart - TopicsExpress

This happened yesterday... Was in a supermarket line with a cart full of stuff. A lady with a toddler walked past me and planted herself in front of me. There was no doubt that I was standing in line... I was actually standing in the passage, facing the conveyor belt. When I asked her what she was doing. She told me that she had only one item and a bawling toddler and she wanted to pay up and leave quickly. It occurred to me that she had no idea that cutting in line was rude. I told her that she should check with the person she is inconveniencing first and let her continue. This has happened to me many times. I know I spent nearly 13 years in the US where these things are taken for granted and my world view is a little coloured, but, no matter where you live, the experience of someone cutting in front of you has to be irritating at the very least. My question is, how do we help people learn? I, for one, have made it a point to voice my displeasure every time I see something like this, but I have started to be a little nicer about it. Any ideas how we can make an impact? By the way, with all the problems that we have in India, one may think this is not important. I feel this is a manifestation of one of the most important problems in our society - apathy.
