This has been a very tough summer for me. It is with a sad and heavy heart that I post these photos. The first one was sent to me just recently, by a dear friend, Mr. Rene Mineault. Many of you are familiar with Rene, from our Smart Trucking Facebook Community. Its a photo of his truck with our Smart Trucking Old School decal.... also pics of his 84 Pete 359, which he loved. Rene passed away August 7, 2014 from cancer. . Rene was without a doubt, Mr. Old School...... 48 years experience. If I posted an article about old trucks, running gypsy, or new regs etc., Rene was almost always the first guy to comment and support my views. He was one of my top supporters. He believed in honest, hard work and was the epitome of a gentleman. We kept in touch fairly regularly. His last email to me read something like this. Well, maam, Im back after cruising with the hot rod and Im kinda disappointed cause I thought some of my old friends... one with a 76 Kenworth and another with an 81 Kenworth... thought we could all retire and just go cruzing with the big rigs, but nah, theyre fed up with trucking too... well, there goes one plan out the window! Ill let you know what I decide... have to think more about what to do now! LOL.... Thats the last I heard from him. Renes wife, Louise said to me, he so loved Smart Trucking and would want me to keep the site going because he loved it so much. Ill miss you, Rene..... your wit, your wisdom and your insight and your wonderful sense of humour. So, keep the shiny side up, and the greasy side down and Ill catch ya on the flip side. ;) Happy Trails to you, my dear friend. The world of trucking and Smart Trucking just wont be the same without you, Rene. Kindly show your support and respect for an old school fellow trucker and comrade. Comments welcome.
