This has been an amazingly busy work week for me. The highlight, however, makes it worth it. I have a student in one of my classes who never brings a book to class; hes doing well to bring a notebook. I see him walking around campus all the time with a few guys following close behind. He sits by my desk, so whenever there are a few minutes at the end of the period, he tends to talk to me. Yesterday he asked me something about Harry Potter (which we started this week) and I was like Ummm, we arent there in the novel yet. He smiled. I know. I caught myself reading ahead. My friends are like Dude, why are you walking around carrying a book? Harry Potter at that?! I told them Cause its a good book! If you told me a few years ago that I could easily spend 40 minutes talking about ONE chapter in Harry Potter while barely even looking at the plot, I never would have believed you. We are taking this novel to a whole nother level! And they are enjoying it! My main defense of J.K. Rowling when people belittle her work is that she got kids to love reading again ... even high school seniors.
