This has been my 6th election believe it or not. If re-elected I will fulfill my duties as councillor and will decide what my political future looks like in four years. I started my political journey 15 years ago with my first civic election and am still standing lol. It has been quite the ride with ups and downs and a few bumps along the way. One of the most enjoyable times in a council term for me is the elections. It is a lot of work because I have a small team, me, myself and I, but we get along very well,lol. A couple things happen during elections that I really enjoy. I like to get to know that candidates I am running with and build some friendships along the way. During the candidate forums I find myself clapping after a candidate speaks not because it is the polite thing to do but because you want to acknowledge that they did a good job and to support them. The elections are about stamina, determination and having a willingness to listen more than you talk in my opinion. The ones that win and that are not well known, do it through sheer determination going out day in and day out knocking on doors , standing at malls and other locations to “Press the Flesh” they say. I know what it is like to lose and election and know what it is like to win an election. Tears of happiness and tears for joy are an option as the voting results come in. I have told people thinking of running for office to just do it! It is a once in a lifetime experience that will give you a new perspective for a part of your life you never knew could exist. Thanks to all the candidates for running in the November 2014 Civic Election. Thanks as well go out to their families and friends supporting them through this short but intense journey. Since we are so full of thanks today lol I would also like to thank the local media for helping to carry the messages of the candidates to the community!
