This has been on my mind lately so Im going to throw it out there - TopicsExpress

This has been on my mind lately so Im going to throw it out there for the world of Facebook to read. And if you read it Ill be so stoked. The thought originates from a book called The God Who Weeps by Terryl Givens in which he references a poem by William Wordsworth. In the poem Wordsworth discusses his adventure of crossing the alps with his friend, and in their march to summit the alps they woke up early and went to sleep late for weeks in eager anticipation to reach the top and witness the joyful climax of their journey. However at one point in their journey their guide moves ahead of them and they end up wandering around for a little while, as they have lost the trail. Finally they cross paths with a peasant and ask him for directions. Their confusion turns to disbelief, then disappointment. Wordsworth recalled, we learned that to the spot which had perplexed us first We must descend, and their should find the road,... And, that our future course, all plain to sight, Was downwards, with current of that stream. Loth to believe what we so grieved to hear, For still we had hopes that pointed to the clouds, We questioned him again, and yet again; But every word that from the peasants lips Came in reply, translated by our feelings, Ended in this, -- that we had crossed the Alps. Givens says that, So anxiously were their hearts set upon the distant goal, so certain were they that the destination would shine forth with conspicuous majesty, that they were oblivious to its attainment. What if we were to find ourselves under a similar delusion? What if in our anxious hope of heaven, we find we have blindly passed it by, like Wordsworth blazing past the alpine summit? What if the possibilities of Zion were already here, and its scattered elements all about us? A childs embrace, a companions caress, a friends laughter...Our capacity to mourn anothers pain, like God for His children; our desire to lift our neighbor from destitution, like Christs desire to lift us from our sin and sorrow... I understand I quoted a lot of this but for those of us who do maintain a hope for a beautiful and majestic life after this one I think its critical that we dont blindly pass by Heaven on the way. Theres so much beauty in life that were surrounded with and as we become more aware of it Im convinced that we can experience the bliss of heaven on earth. If you read all this, thank you! Love you guys, stay hood
