This has been one of those adventurous days best filed under, Too Much Fun. Started out great with a positive health visit for Saidi at the vets. Dropped Saidi off at the house, and thinking that Comcast opened at 9:00, we headed out to pick up a cable box for Dianes new HD TV. Comcast opens at 10:00, so we drive around a bit to McDonalds to get some thing to drink and maybe a snack. While eating I watched one of the workers refilling the napkin dispenser, straws, and cup lids beside the self-serve beverage dispenser. About halfway through his task. he stepped into the parking lot to retrieve some trash he spotted. Stepping back inside, he scooped up some trash off the floor and packed it all down in the trash can. Then he resumed his task with the napkins, straws and cup lids. But, to his credit, he did have plastic gloves on the whole time. The same pair of plastic gloves. I lost my appetite. Back to Comcast where we waited another 10 minutes for the doors to open. Once inside, success! We got the cable box and a shiny, new Wi-Fi modem to replace my old, out-dated cable modem. Back home to do the self-install and activation by phone. Unbeknownst to me, you are supposed to wait at least 2 hours before you attempt to activate said cable box and modem. This oversight led to a rather interesting phone conversation with a gentleman with a rather thick Indian accent. After about 10 minutes of I dont see any information on a cable box, I happened to read the previously mentioned instructions to wait 2 hours. My new friend and I agreed that the activations would probably work better if I waited a little bit and called back. Waited past the 2 hour threshold and was told that the cable box had already been activated. She asked what I had on the TV screen. I said, The words, NO SIGNAL. She said, Hmmm, let me connect you with technical assistance. The next guy asked for a repeat of all of the information I had already given to everyone else. and then told me that he was going to activate the box and for me to stay on the line and he would be back. The was a long silence, about a couple of minutes, and I suddenly hear the robo-questions you get when you first call to initiate the activation. At this point, we still have no channels available on Dianes TV. And I dont even want to risk trying to hook up and activate the new modem. I thought I was pretty savvy when it came to hooking up such things, but its clear Im out of my league. Ive got one of the biggest headaches Ive had in a while, and nothing to show for my efforts. I told Diane to call Comcast and schedule a service call to get everything hooked up and activated. Theyll be out Wednesday. Im glad I didnt have anything important to do today.
