This has been the most incredible and difficult moment of this - TopicsExpress

This has been the most incredible and difficult moment of this trip for me. In my arms is a woman with HIV. Those of you who know me are probably assuming that I grabbed her and hugged the stuffing out of her. But in this case you would be wrong. We were doing paired yoga poses, and she didnt speak any English. I gestured to her to ask her to be my partner. We laughed and giggled and when we were done she grabbed me and wrapped my arms around her and clung to me, in a way that not even my children have done. We sat like that for an eternity. I closed my eyes and just sent all the love I have through my heart. We both cried when we left. These women are shunned. By their families, by the community and even each other. I bought massage oil ( you learn to be ready for anything) as we werent sure what we were doing at the hospice. Mandy was great in the fly when they asked for yoga but I thought in a pinch, no one has touched them or shown them kindness. No one in a long time. At the end of the yoga we brought out the oil and each of us took turns massaging a pair of hands looking deep into the eyes of another soul. It was very powerful. And very humbling. We showed them what we do for each other. Taught them to kitten pile, laugh, lean in and create community where you find it. Love is found in the most unsuspecting places .....
