This has got to be my favourite TED talk. Flynn tells us why average IQs (using modern IQ testing methods as a benchmark) have increased over the last 100 years - incredibly, from 70 to 100 points. Interestingly, the way children are tested in schools has changed from asking them concrete questions, for example, what is the capital of Norway, to asking them questions requiring the ability to see abstract patterns. In other words, the modern world is placing greater demands on our cognitive faculties than ever before. The Flynn Effect explains why average IQ scores have been rising. So its good news for everybody - perhaps in 100 years time well all be liberals! youtu.be/9vpqilhW9uI
