This has to top the list of political chicanery of the year. The House wanted to delay the ACA individual mandate by a year, arguing that if businesses could delay it, individuals should be able to as well. Using the power of the purse, and legislative action, the House went about this effort in a legal and Constitutional manner. Today, NBC news reports that the President, fully exceeding his Constitutional authority, intends to ignore the law, and delay the mandate, something the Executive branch has no power to do, and is already being sued in federal court over. So, why did the President not simply agree to the Houses position two weeks ago, and avoid all of the hubbub of the government shut down?
