This hike I never get tired of and is interesting at any season: the Iron Goat Trail: a rail to trail, trail. The remnants of the original Great Northern Santa Fe Railway from Seattle to St Paul, MN. There are mile posts erected along the hike to tell you the distance there from there to MN. There are huge tunnels (most are not safe to explore, or they are small and completely collapsed), there are amazing view points looking over the valley, hwy 2 climbing up to Stevens Pass and the presently used RR and tunnel. There are old remnants from tools, equipment an dishes workers used as well as iron steaks (Not to be mistaken for really hard mushrooms that could chip your teeth.) It is also an interpretive trail, so there is a lot of explanations boards for what you are looking at during the hike. It is very family and kid friendly. It has been worked on and is in great shape and can be up to 10 mile hikes or less since that have places to turn off or not. It also has no more than 2.2-4% grade due to being an railroad track. Very easy most of it and some paths are ADA accessible!!!!!!
