This important article alleges that extrajudicial killings are taking place inside our parks. Ive seen incredibly irresponsible and illogical comments on another FB site saying Id kill the poachers...id kill them all and KILL THEM ALL There are some people who care about animals so much that they would murder a person in the name of conservation regardless of whether these people are innocent or guilty - they are satisfied with the conviction being suspected. I am struggling to see the difference between murdering a human or an elephant. The reason why WildlifeDirect has supported the training of investigators, prosecutors and magistrates is because we believe in the rule of law and justice for wildlife as well as humans. Its not just Kenya, a police shooting of a man in St Luis USA has sparked racial riots. The police tried to excuse themselves that the man was armed, dangerous and threatening. Independent video footage revealed that this was an unnecessary and unprovoked killing. How many innocent people have died - according to recent reports, the Kenyan police have this year shot and killed 160 people suspected of various crimes - all of this in then name of justice. In my opinion our acceptance of extra-judicial justice will backfire - every killing should be followed by proper and full investigations - whether its an elephant or a human being. washingtonpost/world/africa/kenya-rangers-murder-ivory-poachers-report/2014/08/27/07ddb45e-2e12-11e4-be9e-60cc44c01e7f_story.html
