If they had had their way, countless convicted domestic offenders would be allowed to buy and own guns…and countless victims of domestic abuse would have been killed as a result. We stopped them. By “we,” I mean all of us. Including you. Castleman. The voice of domestic violence prevention advocates prevailed. On Wednesday, every single Justice rejected the gun lobby’s call to blast a gaping hole in the federal gun prohibition for domestic offenders. As a result of the sweeping 9-0 decision from the Supreme Court, if you’re convicted of a domestic violence assault or battery crime, you can’t get a gun. It’s that’s simple. The late Senator Paul Wellstone once said, “often, the only difference between a battered woman and a dead woman is the presence of a gun.” Thanks to you, American women and families are a lot safer now.
