This incident is most certainly a tragedy and as I read the comments I see a lot of emotion but little calm logical thinking. I do believe that it wasnt Officer Olsens intent when entering the yard to kill Mr. Kendalls dog. Mr. Kendall and his dog has my sympathy. At first I had to question why the dog was left unattended in the yard while no one was at home instead of in the house. As I learned that the dog had a kennel in the yard but as we have just learned that the dog could also been attacked by someone walking into the unlocked gate to commit a criminal act. The center of my concern is being attacked by a Weimaraner is totally different then being attacked by a Rottwieller, Pit Bull, or a German Shepard. It is hard for me to believe that the Officer couldnt have handled the incident without deadly force. Before judging the sensible thing is to look for more information. I do believe Mr. Kendall is due some compensation but also if his dog was trained to be in the home when he wasnt there or the gate had been locked then there might have been a different outcome to this story. I believe there are there were actions that both parties could have done to avoid this tragedy. :(
