This independence day there is talk of giving Bharat Ratna to Netaji. The family is upset. I think they have missed the whole point of this debate. it is to correct a badly distorted narrative of our state and a falsification of our history Bose was a national icon that the Nehru- Gandhi family did its best to destroy, for his very memory threatened their legitimacy. The Nehru family historians tried to craft an Indian narrative of state based upon how the Nehru- Gandhis got India her freedom based purely on a Non- Violent struggle of Ahimsa and satyagraha. Historically this is totally false. The Brits left because of the INA of Bose. it had a strength of some 60,000. Of this some 26,000 were killed in action. You call this non- violence?By the way, the total casualties suffered by the 2.5 million strong British indian Army in WWII were just 20,000.After WW II there were mutinies in The Royal Indian Navy and the Indian Army over the INA trials. it is this that forced the British to flee. its about time that we corrected our history and rectified our iconography to represent reality . The nation does not exist to diefy a dynasty. we do not need more hagiographies of Sonia Gandhi via Natwar or Baru or any one else. The nation needs the truth about exactly who we owe our freedom to. The nation needs a historical debate to correct a highly distorted perspective.15 Aug is the right time to remember and correct our delberately distorted National and historical Narrative as a nation.
