This is Bradley Ogdens cover photo on 11/5/14. I dont know anything about it, where it was caught, what railroad, or when. It might even be repainted by now. But as soon as I, by slim chance, happened to see it in my feed, I KNEW I had to share it. This goes out to all my friends & family who have served our great nation; and to all those I never knew who have made the sacrifice to protect our union. Today being the Wed. after election day here in the United Stated, I think this is something important. We have.. well, maybe not the largest standing military, but definitely the most powerful. And in nearly 250 years, America has never faced the prospect of a military coup. Every four years, we as a nation face the realities that we are in fact abolishing our last government and starting anew. A new executive officer who steers the entire government in the direction he believes will lead us to the greatest prosperity is selected and installed. Right or wrong, agree or disagree politically; we have never faced a real insurrection to overthrow the government. For 250years, our system has worked. There will be some who will say Wait! What about the Civil War? Well, think about it. Did the Confederacy try to overthrow the Federal government? No, they sought only to break away from the union and form their own nation. Yes, it was a break in our success of democracy, but they did not try to takeover; only break away and chart their own course in the storms of history. Yet, from across the globe we hear the stories of war-torn nations trying to establish democracy and their military staging a coup and taking over. Why have we survived? Maybe its the training? The sense of duty, honor, loyalty that we instill in the trainees when they enter boot camp? I dont know. What I do know is that for 200years our nation has entrusted our military to protect us and we have trusted them not to abuse the power we have so freely given them. Maybe its the fact that they know, even without picking up a single firearm, a single one of those troops could pick up a pen, paper and the words of our Founding Fathers and single-handedly change the course of our nation. No violence needed, dictators need not apply. Election day may be the day we civilians exercise our control over the government, but it is in fact a testament to the bravery and honesty and diligence and loyalty of our national armed forces. May this day burn bright in all our hearts to remind us that we have in fact just seen a coup here in America... we have overthrown the last government and installed a new one. And not one single drop of blood was shed. Let me raise a toast to the troops who protect us as we transition to our new government and to all those who lost last night. Be brave, keep the faith. Democracy still burns bright in America. Youll get a chance to stage another coup in a couple of years! May gods compassion support those who lost and temper those who won. May his wisdom guide those who now hold power. And may his righteousness shine on our democracy for another 250years. God bless the troops, the civilians, the politicians and God Bless America!
