This is Day #5, and the last day, of the Artists Challenge for me, - TopicsExpress

This is Day #5, and the last day, of the Artists Challenge for me, as I was tagged by fellow artist, Fletcher Hayes, to post 3 images each for 5 consecutive days. Today my choices were 3 landscapes in 3 different media from 3 different time periods. The first one I just completed today, actually. Due to the fact that Im also heavily into prep work to renovate home and studio, I found it tantamount to my sanity to FINISH A PAINTING, and this challenge was the catalyst. That is the first painting here, and it is a watercolor I started last fall looking over the bluffs at Principia College where I taught Public Art as a demonstration for my friend and colleague, Duncan Martins, painting class. Mississippi River Sumac is the working title, and Im still deliberating as to whether or not to paint buildings faintly in the distance amid the Missouri farmlands. There is a bald eagle hovering above, which I was pleased to have added. Theyre actually ubiquitous in that area. That scene holds a lot of real emotion for me, as that campus was very hard to leave. The second work is a 4x8 mixed-media painting on plywood done in layers of modeling paste, museum board, and cut Masonite, then gessoed and painted in acrylic. It is titled Afternoon in Tuscany and is in a collection in Lake Forest, IL. I used a lot of the photos and sketches I had experienced in that region for the research involved. The last work here is Five Waterfalls owned by a prominent Michigan politician whose family has collected my work for a number of years. It is based upon waterfalls I have sketched, painted and photographed at Starved Rock State Park in Utica, IL. Why five waterfalls? Because at the time I did that mixed-media work there were five members of her family. Now there are six. It is comprised of modeling paste, acrylic paint, and oriental papers with a coating of polymer medium and measures 4x7. Whew! This has been a great journey into the past, present, and future. Thanks again, Fletcher! I now tag/nominate Lynn Floriano, an artist who works in metals, to post examples of her compelling work. She and I went to graduate school together at Bowling Green State University.
