This is Florence. She has no family and lives off of a R1250 grant - TopicsExpress

This is Florence. She has no family and lives off of a R1250 grant evey month: she spends most of this money getting a taxi once a month to go and collect her grant. Florence is wheelchair bound because she lost both her legs due to diabetes. This is the house that she lives in all alone. It is crumbling around her and is frequently broken into by wonga addicts and criminals who have in the past strangled her until she passes out. The walls are falling in and cracked, the roof supports of her roof are broken and her doors and windows have been stolen or are broken. Florence lives in her bedroom which is also her kitchen, bathroom, and dining room. She sits alone day in and day out with no radio, no tv and no company. What is left of her toilet is outside of her house. She struggles to leave the house because her wheelchair no longer fits through the warped and collapsing door frames. Today JP Prinsloo, Thembalani Gumede and I went to see Florence in what she still calls home. We took her out into the sun. The sun not only warmed her frail and wrinkled skin but her eyes also began to shine. After considering the possibility of repairing her house we decided that the best thing for Florence was to try and move her into a home where she would be taken care of. After all that Florence has been through she still wanted to stay in her home. After 45 minutes of emotional conversation with her she agreed to let us try and find a home that would take her in. If you know of a refuge or home that would accept this beautiful lady please contact me on 0832488721 or at [email protected] You have more in one room of your house than most people can comprehend. Be grateful and humbled for the things that you have. Waste less, want less, consume less. If you know anyone who can assist please share this or get them to contact me. Thank you.
