This is Gordon Korells tractor. 2 years ago, I was told by my Church members that Gordon wanted to meet me. One Wednesday night, the guys were at Church- out around the bonfire (I think it was the harvest festival) and I went out there to meet Gordon. he was a farmer- overalls, big smile, about 60ish. he looked up at me, smiled and asked me if I was Carla. I said yes. he said You from Los Angeles? I said yes. . he said God has laid it on my heart to give someone some wood I have on my land.... I think thats YOU. He was the nicest, kindest man youd ever want to meet. He teased me a bit about being a city girl, asked me if Id ever been around cows...and told me how to get to his farm. I immediately feel in love with his character. Kynn, I and the girls went out there one day, and was greeted by his farm dog. We went in the house and met his wife Emma. Kind hearted sweet lady. Then he took us out to the field and showed us how to open the gate, There were COWS in the field and they all came up to look at themselves in Kynns truck. He showed me how to close the gate and reminded me that whenever I came out to get a load of wood, to be sure and not let the cows out. There was a donkey out there too. We parked by the wood and began loading the truck with wood he had cut years before and just had an abundance of. Id never saw a cow patty in my life until that day. Gordon turned into a fine friend. We visited about once a month to get wood. I sat in the house one day, talking to Emma, itching to go to the field and throw wood in the truck. She could feel it, and she said Come on, lets go to the field We jumped in a golf cart and she drove that thing like a race car driver through the farm, and on the way, the dog jumped in the golf cart . Gordon took us on a tour of his barns and tractors. Hed been showing them in parades for years. he simply was a grand man. with a heart of gold. One day he told me Emma was losing her memory, and he actually cried...saying they had spent 50 plus years together and he couldnt believe she wouldnt remember it all. We talked for a long time and he was hurting over her condition. He Had been to the Dr with her and her memory was failing. He told us about how , at the end of a long farming day, he would go in the house with her, bathe her, put lotion on her and get her into a nice warm bed. Such a sweet tale. About 2 months later, my nephew suddenly passed away and we flew to Los Angeles to be with his mom and atend the funeral. I couldnt have imagned a tragedy happening right in the middle of a tragedy....but the day we got to Los Angeles, Gordon Korell passed away. I never got to say goodbye to him, but his memory lives within me every day. I couldnt help but think that Emma had lost her memory so she wouldnt remember the man who gave her so much joy in her life, and the pain that would cause. God is almighty. he knows everything. When we begin to question his will....lets remember Gordon and Emma. May he be enjoying his forever home and friends there as much as we enjoyed him here.
