This is Iram, a member of the Muslim Students’ Association (MSA) - TopicsExpress

This is Iram, a member of the Muslim Students’ Association (MSA) and a third-year student of both physiology and anatomy and human biology. She’s basically Pakistani but was born and raised in Dubai, and moved to Australia in 2012 for a better education. Iram has been a UniSkills leader and has volunteered for Fairway UWA, O-Week and Open Day. She loves henna drawing, spending time with friends and family and travelling with AISECUWAS to help kids in need out there. She’s also had the fascinating opportunity to give back by raising funds for UWA through the Alumni development relations campaign in 2013. Being a part of MSA means Iram has learnt team work to organise some very inclusive events. Here are Iram’s five things you probably don’t know about UWA Muslim Students Association: 1. The UWA MSA is one of the largest Guild affiliated clubs with a total of about 160 members as of this year! 2. Whilst the UWA MSA works to facilitate the academic, social and spiritual growth of Muslim students and staff on campus, we also make sure that our events are tailored so that everyone who attends, regardless of race, ethnicity or religion, has an enjoyable experience. 3. Our committee and our members are very diverse! We have people from all corners of the world in our club including Eritrea, France, India, Turkey, and of course Australia! 4. Like our committee and members, our events are also very inclusive. Our Annual Community Iftaar is evidence of one such example. Our friends of other faiths (or no faiths) were welcomed to attend, free of charge, in an effort to showcase the wonderful spirit of camaraderie that Ramadan (the Islamic month of fasting) brings with it. 5. Our next major event that’s coming up next week Wednesday (22/10) from 7-9pm in Alexander Lecture Theatre is a discussion forum titled, “Combating Islamophobia”. Given the recent media portrayals of Muslims, there seems to be a need for open dialogue on such topics. The event will feature a panel of prominent Muslim leaders in Perth and representatives from the WA Police and UWA. More details at: https://facebook/events/924898297524840/?fref=ts . As usual, this event is open to all so I hope to see you there.
