This is Jason Brown. He was a starting center in the NFL for the Rams and the Ravens. He made millions of dollars. But a couple of years ago he walked away from it all. He wanted to become a farmer and feed the hungry. And what’s even more amazing is that he knew nothing about farming. My agent told me, Youre making the biggest mistake of your life. And I looked right back at him and I said, No Im not. No Im not. At one point Brown lived in a huge mansion in St Louis. But he bought a 100 year-old farm in North Carolina and then learned how to grow crops. “It was a leap of faith. But my wife was behind me 100%. And with that leap of faith everything just started lining up.” Brown studied videos on the Internet about farming. He asked a lot of questions. He worked hard. And he says everywhere he turned there were people to help him. He called his farm First Fruits Farm. wisdomforlife.org/first-fruits-farm.html He spent all last year getting the farm back in shape. And then this year everything came together. I went out to plow up the potatoes last week and looked behind the tractor. I dont know if Ive ever seen anything quite as beautiful as those big brown potatoes lying everywhere. Brown says he’s donated 100,000 pounds of sweet potatoes to feed the hungry. And he wants to double that next year. He’s also donated 10,000 pounds of cucumbers. Brown knows that what he’s done may not make sense to a lot of people. He says they always ask him the same thing: “Why would you give that up? Why would you leave that, and now stay in a hundred year-old Farmhouse. Why would you be out here working digging up dirt, when you don’t have to.” His answer: “It’s living life with purpose.” I’ll say. If you want to hear Jason speak in person this is a link to a 3-minute video. youtu.be/rpX0jGxjTZM I found him so soft-spoken and real. As he says: “This is the most rewarding thing I’ve done with my life. “ Some quotes courtesy Steve Hartman CBS News Tim Stevens News & Observer Pictures courtesy ESPN Wisdom For Life
