This is Jays Story. RIP Jay Jay is the oldest of two boys, and he grew up in Methuen,MA with his younger brother Matt, his mom Brenda Farley and dad. In 2009 Jay wanted to shave his head, and noticed a mole above his left ear that he was concerned about, the next day just for precautionary reasons decided to have it looked at..The Dermatologist biopsied the mole, then removed a little more,as well as ordering a Pet scan, but everything checked out fine. Life went on as normal, and then the first week of March 2013 Jay complained of sever headaches, and on March 4th he got up to go the the restroom, but collapsed to the floor, and began to have seizures, with his Mother witnessing the whole thing. He was rushed to the hospital, where a CT scan revealed 12 Tumors on his brain, and was immediately rushed to Mass General Hospital in Boston, never even thinking anything of his mole Jay spent 3 weeks at the the hospital and several tests later,a small tumor on his lung revealed that it was Stage 4 Melanoma.Jay tried two different Chemo pills, and was supposed to start PD1 last July, but after being off all his meds for 3 weeks (per order of drug company),he grew one more Tumor on his brain, which made him disqualified. September 2013 Jay was rushed back to Boston because he could not breathe, where another CT scan revealed that the tumor in his lung grew to the size of a fist, and a blood clot appeared the same size. The tumor was cutting off circulation to his heart as well, and Jay was then given 2 weeks to live . Jay then agreed at that point to begin radiation, even though the risk of death was so high, being that his heart was involved. The Tumor and clot shrank just enough to make it easier for him to breathe, and by grace of God it allowed him to live out 4 more Amazing months with his family . January 23rd 2014,he was taken back to MGH because he was having more breathing issues, and at that time found out hat the Tumor and clot had grown back to the same size, only giving him a few days left to live. January 28th 2014, Jay earned his Angel wings, peacefully holding on to his fathers hand. Jay asked his family before he passed,to promise that they would do all they could to help raise money for Melanoma research, and ultimately a cure, and this is now his families main goal. Jay was only 30 years old. With so many stories of misdiagnosed Melanoma, Brenda and her family will always wonder if that mole was tested incorrectly.....We have GOT to be our own Advocates,INSIST on testing, and even second opinions... RIP Jay Farley.. (11 photos)
