This is Laura posting finally! :) I know yall heard bits and pieces of my birthing story but here it is in entirety. At my regular checkup on Thursday, the ultrasound showed Alex was a little over 10 lbs. Because ultrasounds are usually off in weight, my doctor felt Alex was actually around 9 lbs but because he was so large and I was 38 weeks, he suggested inducing labor that night. So Charlie and I (with my AWESOME friend Tammy Harris) came to the hospital and I was admitted shortly after midnight. They began the Pitocin drip around 1 AM. By 4 PM on Friday I was only dilated 4 cm and was still in early labor so they broke my water with the hopes of increasing labor. Nothing doing. By 9 AM on Saturday, I was still 4 cm and in early labor so we made the decision to go with the c-section. Charles Alexander OConner, Jr (Alex) was born at 2:36, weighed 10.6 lbs, and is 21 inches in length. Hes a chubby little boy too. :) He had low blood sugar when he was born as well as having some rapid breathing due to some fluid in his lungs which the pediatrician says is quite normal for a baby his size. He also told me he believes Alex is around 36 weeks in gestation. They put him on an IV to help manage the blood sugar and oxygen for the breathing. As of today, his blood sugar has been staying within the normal range so they hope to remove the IV tomorrow morning. They have him on 1/4 L of oxygen and have tried taking him off of it completely but he isnt fully ready yet for that. As of now, they expect that he and I can go home on Tuesday. Im doing great. Textbook c-section. Im stiff and a little sore but right now Im managing the pain with regular Motrin so Im pleased with that. Thank you for all of your prayers. Charlie and I got much needed rest last night and today and are enjoying spending time with Alex, although we cannot wait to get him home. :)
