This is Marlia, in her first year of a Diploma of Art History and a member of the Western Australian Students Aboriginal Corporation (WASAC). She loves hip hop and reggae music, has grown up with it and is a real passion of hers. Marlia’s cultural background is Kukuyalanji and Solomon Islander and Australian. She also has strong family connections in North East Arnhem Land. She’s extremely proud of her culture, is very family oriented, and enjoys baking and sport of all kinds. Marlia is busy for the next few days playing on the UWA team for the National Indigenous Tertiary Education Student Games. Heres what NITESG means to Marlia: 1. I am playing in the NITESG team for UWA in 2014. You can support NITESG by coming along and cheering on UWA 2. I have been fundraising and working towards this massive event all year. Come along and network with Indigenous students from all over AUS 3. At the opening ceremony I will be the MC. My favourite part of NITESG is meeting other Indigenous students from AUS and sharing stories and support within our lives at uni. We always make incredible bonds and relationships with each other. 4. I love that NITESG is something for Indigenous students to be so very proud of and be a strong presence on campus. Please buy a raffle ticket off a student today to support our fundraising commitments and efforts! 5. NITESG will make the UWA community stop and take notice of their Indigenous students and realise that we are doing a lot of positive things for UWA. Good luck to our Western Waagyls playing volleyball and touch today and tomorrow!
