This is My Prayer for My Mother: (by Tina Fey) First, Lord, please let my mother know she is beautiful in every way. Whisper in her ear that no matter how many wrinkles have formed on her face or how many gray hairs are on her head, that she is absolutely lovely and unique and that when I look at her, I see a radiant beauty no one can match. Let my mother be hugged the way she has hugged others. Let her be impacted the way she has impacted so many lives. Let her know that her presence is pure light and that she has so much to offer to those around her. Protect my mother, Lord, as she wakes up every morning, clutches her Diet Coke, and braces herself for another day of teaching Americas youth. Remind her that what she does matters. That who she is matters. That she matters in so many ways and that no one else can replace her. Show her that her children love her. That no matter how many tattoos I get, or how many times I cuss, how many times I run a red light, or how many times I wear oddly combined, ill-fitting clothes - that does not tell the world that she failed in raising me but that she gave birth to a passionate, creative and intelligent baby girl who is now a woman who wants to emulate her mothers love of life and love of people. Remind her, Lord, that her kids are not parents yet and when they are, and they are awake for the tenth night in a row and covered in spit up and feces and only-You-know-what-else, both of her children will stop, raise their eyes to heaven, and thank God that they had a mother who gave her all to clean up their own spit up, feces, and oh so much more. May my mother never stop dancing, never stop laughing, never stop loving, and never stop hugging. She isnt perfect, Lord, but shes a damn good woman and I am so proud of her. (Im sorry for cursing, but I feel really strongly about my mother. She didnt teach me that word.) And Lord, let my mother know that everyone has a story. Let her know that no matter what, You love her, her children love her, and that she is an amazing woman and that you created her. Pick her up when she falls. Kiss her boo-boos when she gets hurt. Hold her hand when she crosses the street. And never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever let her go. She is my mama. You only gave me one, so I pray that you hold her in your arms the way she held me all of those years. Thank you for my mother, Lord. Amen My daughter Tatiana gave me this when I was at my lowest. I am blessed to have been giving and choosing to be their mother. I have no words or action that I can use or do to let my four children know how proud I am of them. Happy Mothers Day
