This is NOT a rock, stone or charcoal. This is preserved food called Shimi-Mochi and has been produced in the Tohoku area, especially in Fukushima, for a long time. Shimi-Mochi means frozen rice cake and can be preserved for long time. The coldness and dryness of the air helps in the making of this preserved rice cakes. It is said that Shimi-Mochi was made about three hundred years ago to endure famines in these cold areas. #fukushima #tohoku
