This is Reba, an eight and half year old, 70 pound, spayed, - TopicsExpress

This is Reba, an eight and half year old, 70 pound, spayed, female, purebred German Shepherd. I took her in because she had a severe allergic reaction to her owners new backyard. Her previous owner had her since she was 4 months old, and moved to a new home in September of 2013. Shortly after, Reba began itching herself raw. Many vet appointments later, it was determined that she was having an allergic reaction to something environmental, best guess, Eucalyptus trees. I took her in on August 1st. I placed her in a home who brought her to the Cameron Park Animal Hospital and confirmed that the reaction is not mite related but informed them this would be a lifelong thing to be handled, so she was returned to me. I have started her on Prednisone, Cephlex, Atopica, Ketocomozole pills, Otomax and BNPH ointments. I am bathing her once a week in a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and spraying the hairless spots daily with a mixture of manuka honey and coconut oil. I am looking for a forever who understands that she is approximately a 4 year commitment of senior years. Your time together will be brief, but fabulous and she will give you every ounce of love she has. Also, one who understands that while she is not perfect and she is going to require a time commitment for baths, grooming, and medications for at least two months, she is an absolute joy to have around and all of the time spent brings you closer to her. I dont have a crystal ball, but in the 11 days she has been away from the allergen, her skin has improved tremendously and the itching has stopped completely. I think with good food (currently started on Tractor Supplys 4 Health Performance), a full run of 60 days worth of medications and baths once a week, working at spacing baths out farther as she heals and she will be good as new in no time. I could be totally wrong, she could have another outbreak and be back at square one. HOPE for the best, PREPARE for the worst. Okay, so you made it this far, now for all the best stuff: hands down, the BEST dog currently in my home is Reba! She makes my 3 dogs look like dimwits (bless their hearts). She comes INSTANTLY to her name and you only have to say it once, all of the basic commands, say it once and BAM! its done. She is house trained, LOVES baths and jumps in the tub, LOVES water and plays in the hose, is excellent with all 3 of my dingbats (a goofy 7 month old pup, a non aggressive male and a dominant female), is not the least bit dominant or aggressive, even with her food, doesnt look twice at any of my cats or my free range chickens, is PERFECT around the horses and even follows beside them on trail rides, is gentle, patient and kind with my 6 and 8 year old boys, has never once barked, is happy and friendly with strangers (not an ounce of guard dog in there, Im afraid), sleeps next to my bed and is always glued to me. She helps me with the farm chores and sleeps next to me whatever I am doing the rest of the day. Takes all of her meds like a champ. The only complaint I can have about this girl is that I didnt meet her when she was 4 months old. There is a $100 dollar adoption fee that includes: her food, her topical spray, the rest of her medications to complete a full 60 days, an am/pm pill box to help keep you organized, vet notes, shampoo and conditioner, the contact information of her previous owner and my cell number in case you have any questions EVER in the course of your relationship. I cant imagine I left anything out, but if I did, please dont hesitate to ask.
