This is Saya Hawkins obituary: MARK HAWKINS HAWKINS, Mark Allen, 55, of Steubenville, went home to be with Jesus, Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. Born May 10, 1958, he was a son of the late Elsie M. Hawkins and Harris Wayne Hawkins of Steubenville. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Claire Hawkins, and an Uncle Paul Hawkins. Mark is survived by a son, Bryan Hawkins of Columbus, Ohio; a brother Dr. Curt Hawkins of Akron, Ohio; his father Wayne Hawkins of Steubenville; his companion of 17 years, Ms. Theresa Tree Devore and family, Joy (Garry) Daugherty, Greg (Linda) Herrick, Joshua Herrick Sgt. USMC, and grandchildren Kobe, Patrick, Madison, and Paige; close friends Dave Buckmaster, Bear Merrill, Roger Wayne, Ron Cattrell, Buddy and Shawn Wilson. Mark graduated from Jefferson Union High School in 1976 and received his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering from Jefferson Technical College in 1983. He attended the United Brethren in Christ Church in East Liverpool. He was a Mechanic for 40 years and then shifted gears and became employed by Island Creek Township. Mark was actively involved in the discipline of Bando, achieving the title of Saya (Teacher) with brothers Brandon and Joshua Brooks. Mark was a cornerstone in the Bando Club of Steubenville, to which his sheer dedication and training through the years earned him a Blackbelt, and the title of Saya His ability to teach and express his wisdom went far beyond the dojo, and into the lives of everyone he instructed and trained with. According to Marks wishes, his body was sent to the Ohio University in Athens, Ohio for medical research. His spirit is in Heaven with his Lord and Savior. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 11:15 a.m. at the United Brethren in Christ Church, 528 Grandview Avenue, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920 with Pastor Joe Celone officiating. Memorial contributions in Marks name may be made to the church. A luncheon will follow at the church after the service.
