This is VERY important, please read and give your opinion!! -Copied from the Green Bay Branch Office Page ANY AND ALL COMMENTS ON THE FOLLOWING WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE HO-CHUNK NATION LEGISLATURE At Tuesdays Legislature meeting (January 21, 2014) the following resolution was passed and will be out for: 1) PUBLIC COMMENT for a period of 90 days - 2) survey results will also be published in the Hocak Worak, which the Childrens Trust Fund (CTF) work group based changes upon; 3) PUBLIC FORUMS will be held in each district, and MAILINGS to parent/guardians informing them of POSSIBLE changes. These are the proposed changes: OPTION #1: High School diploma (not HSED or GED), plus 18 years of age, plus completion of financial education class - 20% will be disbursed. Successful completion of 24 semester credits (or the equivalent in alternate terms, i.e. trimester, quarter, etc) of post secondary education from an accredited college or university, OR one year of military service OR full-time employment - 15% will be disbursed. Successful completion of 48 semester credits (or the equivalent in alternate terms, i.e. trimester, quarter, etc) of post secondary education from an accredited college or university, OR one year of military service OR full-time employment - 15% will be disbursed. Successful completion of 72 semester credits (or the equivalent in alternate terms, i.e. trimester, quarter, etc) of post secondary education from an accredited college or university, OR one year of military service OR full-time employment - 15% will be disbursed. Successful completion of 120 semester credits (or the equivalent in alternate terms, i.e. trimester, quarter, etc) of post secondary education from an accredited college or university, OR one year of military service OR full-time employment - 15% will be disbursed. Successful completion of Ho-Chunk History & Culture Curriculum - 15% will be disbursed. REACHING THE AGE OF 28 - remaining balance will be disbursed. (a) In the event a Member reaches the age of eighteen (18) and does not produce proof of meeting the educational requirements set forth in the Code, the CTF account shall be held on the same terms and conditions applied while the member beneficiary is/was still a minor. Or until the earliest occurs: 1) the Member meets the requirements; 2) the Member reaches the age of twenty-eight (28); or 3) the Member is deceased. (b) The quarterly per capita disbursement will be made directly to the tribal member upon reaching the age of 25. *********************************************** OPTION #2: At age 18, obtain a high school diploma and complete first financial literacy course* - 25% will be disbursed. At age 21, having obtained a high school diploma, complete second financial literacy course* - 25% will be disbursed. At age 25, having obtained a high school diploma, completed third financial literacy course*, Ho-Chunk government, culture and history curriculum** AND if the individual at this time has received a 2 or 4 year degree or is employed or in the military for at least one calendar year or completed a technical education degree - Remaining 50% will be disbursed. --------------OR-------------- At age 25, if Member has not earned a high school diploma, or hasnt completed the three financial literacy courses*, and the Ho-Chunk curriculum*** - 50% will be disbursed. At age 28, if Member has not earned their high school diploma, complete a review of the financial literacy curriculum* - 50% will be disbursed. Quarterly payments will be held until 25 years old if the individual has not earned a high school diploma and the first literacy course* has not been completed. *Three part financial literacy curriculum to be developed by the Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Education and approved by the Ho-Chunk Nation Legislature. **Ho-Chunk government, history and culture curriculum to be developed by the Ho-Chunk Nation Heritage Preservation and approved by the Ho-Chunk Nation Traditional Court.
