This is VERY true! In my time fighting fires, (nearly 20 years at it), there were seasons where we did not battle ANY large fires. For our purposes here, a large fire is going to be over 100 acres in size. By far the lions share of the fires I have fought have been from much less than an acre to 30 acres in size. That is the bulk of what you do. As an Incident Commander who was certified for fires up to 300 acres, I was an incident commander of a large fire just six times in my career. Of the 78 fires I was the IC on, the majority of them were less than 50 acres.
