This is Yula, a friend from the village of Nalulae. I found out today that Yula went to be with Jesus last Thursday. HIs death was unexpected, but in a place where death is common it is hardly a surprise. I am sad for his family and sad he wont be there the next time I come through. This picture was clandestinely taken by one of our Zambian friends from Hope Church Mongu while Yula was praying to receive Jesus. In fact Yula was the first Zambian I had the personal privilege of introducing to Jesus. He wasnt very receptive to our being there when we first rocked up for a visit. In fact he wouldnt make eye contact and even seemed a bit annoyed that we were interrupting his work. God gave me very specific, challenging, and affirming words to communicate His love and life long pursuit of Yulas heart. By the end of the conversation two men who had lived their lives 8000 mile apart were both in tears at the consideration of Gods relentless love and in the power of His presence. Over the past four years since Yulas conversion Ive been back to Zambia several times, and have traveled through to visit him on multiple occasions, always with a very very warm reception. Unfortunately he wasnt around when I passed through this past June. I wish I could have seen him. Still, Im thankful to know that the past few months he had moved to Mongu to work on a road crew and had been connoting with the guys at Hope Church there. My great friend and fellow laborer for the Lord Leonard Simukonda passed the news along to me today of Yulas passing. Leonard did the funeral on Monday, Im very sure He did a great Job and Im thankful Yula is safely with His savior...
