This is a balanced piece by Matt Kish from the Portland Business Journal. If you want to understand why I just had my fire completely rekindled for this fight, check out pages 6-9. In response, I just sent Dewlyn Hudson, Nikes Director of Global Corporate Communications the following message (see below). If you want to give Ms. Hudson a piece of your mind, hit her up on Twitter @DewlynHudson. Peace, Jim Keady (Message to Ms. Hudson) “We investigated Mr. Keady’s claims [of illegal dumping] last year and determined they were based on the same unsubstantiated claims he raised in 2010,” Hudson said in an email. Youre kidding, right? Do I need to dump the shoe parts from the dumps on your desk? Sending off an email to your Indonesian subcontractors and asking THEM to find the dump is not investigating the issue. At the least, you could have the courage that Caitlin Morris had and get out into the field and see what is really going on. As for this... When asked if Indonesian workers are being paid less than minimum wage, Hudson said, “not to our knowledge,” and pointed to Nike’s code of conduct. You must be joking, yes? I spoke with workers from your Indonesian factories three weeks ago who were ALL paid less than the minimum wage in 2013. Are you willfully ignorant or are you simply being paid to mislead the public, consumers, investors and athletes? Peace, JWK
