This is a beautiful song written by David Macwilliams. I have changed it a little but I hope I will be forgiven. There may be differing interpretations, but my favourite is that is of a woman who is a Gypsy at her heart. She is woman of Passion and Mystery; one who will not be tied down by the notions of normality or man made convention. The veil that she wears is of her choosing and, unless she chooses otherwise, you may only look in through her eyes and there you will, if you are very lucky, see through to her heart. No man will rule her and all honours must be won moment by moment. When she loosens her veil, do not be too confident, for this is a test. Your reactions are scrutinised. No one can possess her. The fool who tries will loose her for all time and for his efforts will loose his heart and even his mind. For me, the essence of the Gypsy is universal. You can follow the trail of the Gypsy from The Far East and India, through the Middle East -- Arab & Jew, into Russia & Eastern Europe. At the same time; along southern Europe & North Africa and again, up through Spain, the West and North of France and into Celtic Britain. I am sure that the tribes from Eurasia travelled across to the Americas, probably many times throughout history and before it. The essence of the Gypsy; the look & feel, music & dance, the desire to move on always present; and can be seen everywhere. The essence of the Gypsy is to conserve only what is needed and to travel light, returning everything taken back to its source. The things of the Earth back to the Earth, through Wind, Fire & Water. Things provided by men returned in kind. I hope you like my production of this song. If anyone who friends and Subscribes to this Channel, or my Facebook Pages, would like me to do a version of their favorite song - Just let me know. I will give it a go :-) Please visit my Anti-Abuse / Rebuilding Communities Website: visitweb.org Those things that men sought to steal from the gypsy were not of their possession. The Gypsies loss is not the possessions, but the responsible freedom that comes from not being a slave. The antagonism that the Gypsy experiences from these slaves of possession is that of envy -- because such thieves enslave themselves in their hearts and chain themselves to the objects they possess, including the people they enslave in turn, dragging them ever downwards. Let all men then be sailors then, until the sea shall free them, but best not weigh yourself down with gold coins in your pockets :- ) Thank you Gypsies of the world for the gifts of mystery, music and dance. Thank you for carrying the messages for so long and telling your stories through spoken word and drama; to children young and old. Now they will listen at last. Patience and forbearing is a virtue -- The meek will inherit the Earth.
