This is a beautiful story of how things should turn out by persistently working your case, but in some instances like my case with Samuel. DFCS already had their heads made up, Samuel wasnt ever coming back home. The foster care parents were determined to adopt Samuel and since my ex-husband had signed over his parental rights, Samuels fate was decided. Let me give you the background...Samuels case was suppose to be worked by his father. We were divorced. In our divorce decree, he was going to raise Samuel. Samuels father was arrested and went back to prison yet again. When he was arrested, his mother asked me to care for Samuel. I eagerly went to Atlanta and picked him up. I assumed that when his father got out of prison he would care for Samuel, once he got on his feet. That didnt happen. So when things got to be more than I could handle I reached out for help from Hall Co DFCS in 2011, as recommended in the past from Gwinnett Co DFCS, Hall County shrugged me off. Frustrated, I forced Hall Co to help me with Samuel, by threatening to beat him, knowing they would have to remove him from the home. In the end, IT BACKFIRED!! Samuels father did not work his case plan and since I attended the family case plan meeting as Judge Jolliff suggested. I was made a key player in the case plan without even realizing it. When in court, for Samuel, I was made to look like an abusive mother with a reoccurring drug problem. When Samuel went into custody, I did relapse. It was more than, I could handle. My child was in a place, that I never imagined would happen. I thought my ex would man up and do the right thing. According to information I have obtained from the state, Samuel and I should have had one last visit together. That never happened either. The system failed Samuel in so many ways. My parental death sentence occurred in September, 2012. Samuel was adopted in 2013.
