This is a big thank you to all who took part in George’s Tribute Night on Saturday 24th August 2013 The bands who took part in the gig created an amazing line up. We were kicked off in style by The Front Line and followed by the boys from Blues Power, a new band with some well known faces. The Mighty Sarrahawk were fabulous as always and they were followed up by Whisky River, a band who are rapidly getting noticed in the live music scene. Clanadonia dropped in to give us a lesson on how real music is played then The Jenson Interceptors, who need no introduction, finished off that part of the day for us in brilliant style. We were also joined later in the evening by Safehouse, an Edinburgh band that looks as if it might be getting adopted by Glaswegians if Saturday was anything to go by. There is a long list of musicians who made up “The Business” in its various forms, but each and every one of them all deserve a mention as without their time, effort and talent, two things would not have happened. Firstly, the gig would not have been successful, but secondly and more importantly, in many cases, without these great individuals, Big George and the Business would not have existed in the first place. The names read as a whos who of great music in Glasgow and beyond and are as follows:-Robert Baird; John McGarrigle; Stevie Gallacher; Jamie Norwood; Lawrence Thompson; Davie Halley; George Tucker; Raymie Rashid; Jon Fleming; Alan Brown; Stevie Flynn; Ian Crockert; Khris Beattie; Alan Wheeler; John Bradley; Andy Allan; Eddie Trainer; Donny McLean; Greg Orr; Tam McLucas; Tommy McIntyre; Deke; John Bruce; Gary Martin; Lorrayne McLucas and Marion Cochrane. Ian Siegal travelled up from London to join us for this special day before heading down to to collect his awards at the British Blues Awards at Colne. A big thank you also goes out to the presenters and DJ’s of the day: the legendary Tom Russell ; Ritchie (The Butler)Devlin; the supremely efficient Big Sandy Watson and the effervescent Robert Fields all helped to make the day one to remember. To Kelvin and the gang at Ivory Blacks who welcomed us and to Ski who has got to now win some kind of award for sheer stamina as the Sound Engineer who never stopped - To the girls and boys on the door (including George’s mother-in-law); those handing out albums and dealing with the raffle, (you know who you are) and to all those who donated raffle prizes and to John and George at Double Image for all their printing know how and of course the Big George cut-out– thank you. This kind of event does not organise itself and our final thank you for keeping us from flying apart goes to Tam McLucas, Greg Orr, Ritchie Devlin and most of all, the unsung hero of the day, Carla Chisholm, without whom Saturday would never have happened. Lastly a thank you to all of you who showed up, supported the gig and helped us celebrate George’s life in style. Maybe The Wilderness ain’t such a bad place to be...... With love and thanks, Carolynn & Natasha
