This is a bit long, but its a great treatise on the subject of public service, of which the late Jim Flaherty was a great example. Mr. Flaherty was not just the guiding light for Canadas economic recovery; but he was an effective mentor to the world economy. We was tough and disciplined, while retaining flexibility when it was needed. He could be a battler when he knew he was right; but he always did it with humour and a twinkle in his Irish eyes. I would characterize him as a man who had opponents, as we all do. But, he was a man with no enemies. He was admired, respected and liked across the spectrum, and theres not many who can say that.
