This is a bit long but need to vent alittle about politics. Was a bit insulted tonight by someone campaigning for commissioner that stopped at my house. He said his goal was to make EMVFD a paid department like the city because citizens of district want to be covered 24/7 and have better trained firemen by EMVFD. Folks....you ARE covered 24/7 by EMVFD. I know that for a fact because i am a fire fighters wife. I have suffered and givin up more sleep, time, vacations, family outings with my husband so he CAN go out and help our community...even all night long while we sleep! Plus he works a 50hr week job as assistant manager for sunbelt rentals. My husband has even trained as HazMat tech, first responder...heck he can go jump in medic bus and cover as emt if he wanted. Thats how much training he does in what little spare time he has! My husband, along with rest of EMVFD firemen, are above and beyond trained and are just as qualified as the paid! Just because u drive by the station and u may not see a vehicle there or bay doors closed DOES NOT MEAN you are NOT covered by EMVFD at that moment and dont let anyone else tell you differently! The firemen respond from where ever they are at. Who leaves a paid job to go rescue someone from a burning house, or from a wrecked vehicle? MY HUSBAND DOES! Takes a dedicated heart and soul and love for God...and the whole family has to be. Everyone thinks about $signs and thats not what we suppose do...do what God wants you to do...to GIVE and he will provide. EMVFD gives a lot more for not a dime in our pockets. Yes, it would be nice to be paid...but is it necessary to be with the county budget in mind? Where does the money need to be used at more? Theres over 20,000 volunteer stations in the US and only 10,000 paid stations (fact stat with the national fire department council). So why is it volunteers get looked down on as some under trained firemen that dont know what they are doing ALL because they not paid? So my vote stays with whoes sign is in my yard! Think about who you may be talking to first before you go talking about what your goals are. (Person has no idea we EMVFD familiy)
