This is a classic tale of how a union president became a labor legend and how a secret dinner meeting led to the creation of the worlds largest airline offering historical profits to executives, shareholders and investors. This story, offered up by the unions PR team, ONeil & Associates, noticeably omits the fact that the union presidents cousin, Tom Weir, hosted the secret dinner meeting because he was a treasurer at U.S. Airways and assumed the same title at American Airlines Group, a job three times in size and stature. Its a wonderful story of how a floundering union president used membership dues to rewrite history in an effort to salvage her tanking career because she sold the membership for pennies on the dollar and never envisioned what would happen if they counted the pennies before they voted.
