This is a completely off-kilter connection to have made, but earlier this evening I posted a link to a story about Texan sax player Bobby Keys, who died today. The story included a Keys reminiscence about shinnying up a tree in Lubbock, Texas in 1955 or so to watch a loud band playing on a flatbed truck at a gas station opening. Thats right. It was Buddy Holly. That brought to mind a non-anecdote from a long-ago Wisconsin friend, who long ago, in 1968, when he was maybe fifteen or so, went to a summer concert at the Majestic ski resort near Lake Geneva. There he was walking along when suddenly, directly in his path, out of a tree jumped Pete Townshend. That is all.
