This is a continuation from our post on Monday that focused on the importance of getting a specific and accurate diagnosis for your musculoskeletal injuries. The video shown below is from the founder of Integrative Diagnosis, Dr. Bill Brady. It is definitely worth a watch for the 4 minutes. Getting the right diagnosis is only half of the equation when it comes to fixing your problem. In order to completely resolve and fix the problem the treatment also has to match up to the diagnosis, or as Dr. Brady calls it “the sweet spot treatment.” Unfortunately in most cases the treatment doesn’t fit with the actual diagnosis, it tends to be focused on what the practitioner happens to be trained in. Orthopedic surgeons perform surgery or give injections. Chiropractors adjust or manipulate every bone in the body. Physical therapists stretch and strengthen until the sun goes down. Acupuncturists place needles in a predictable pattern based on symptoms. Massage therapists’ push on it really hard (hopefully not with their elbows!) Here comes another one of my awesome analogies… These above treatments are very “hammer and nail” approach and don’t fully address what the patient may truly need. Every problem is unique and different, needing the treatment to match what the injury really calls for. The integrative diagnosis system is the only form of treatment and assessment out there that truly evaluates the patient from a level of functionality. The focus is on tissue specific diagnosis and the CORRECT treatment for the problem at hand. Thanks for reading. Dr. Maggio Next weeks post is going to focus on the dreaded idea of getting rest and letting your body properly recover.
