This is a copy of my email to Mr. Alex Malley, CEO of CPA Australia together with the screenshot of the petition result. ====================== Dear Mr. Malley, I am writing to you regarding an issue that has been discussed and raised as a concern among CPA Associate members. I have set up a petition on CPA Australia – Global Facebook page about a week ago after seeing many concerns from fellow member regarding the lack of availability of Paper-Based Test (PBT) centers in many capital cities in semester 2, 2014. I understand that CPA Australia has introduced Computer-Based (CBT) exam to Professional level as a new alternative to traditional exam format. Personally, I have had positive experience with CBT from my Foundation level exams. I would say many of the candidates here would also support the new format if it is properly communicated and implemented. However what disappointed us so far is the phasing out of PBT without much of information about the changes, in particular, exam booking process. Many candidates in major cities like Canberra, Adelaide, Townsville, Auckland and Singapore could not book a seat in PBT centers despite trying to do so in the first week of official enrolment. As you can see from the result of the petition attached below, many of candidates who are familiar with PBT in the past would like to have extra seats in PBT so that they are not forced to take an exam format that they are not comfortable with. The move from PBT to CBT is a major change in the exam experience for many CPA candidates. As with any changes in real business world, the implementation plan should be widely communicated to relevant stakeholders. During the transition period, new standards/procedures are encouraged to be adopted but should not be at the expense of the old ones. However, we have not experienced any of this so far. There seems to be a lack of formal communication from CPA Australia to affected candidates. Currently there is a void of information regarding the followings: 1. Will there be extra PBT seats for semester 2 due to popular demand from candidates? 2. What is CPA Australia plan to make candidates more familiar with the new CBT format and detailed procedures in exam room in this semester? 3. Will PBT exam phased out completely in the future? If so, what is the implementation plan in term of timing and geographic location? With only 1 week to go with the enrolment, I would urge you firstly to look at any possible solution for the point number 1 above. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss this matter further with you should it need to. Thank you for your time and consideration. Kind regards, David Le
