This is a cousin of mine, Mark Hatfield here on the video. Mark and other family members, along with some McCoys, had been approached to do a tv reality series about the family Moonshine. They had an investor who was a liquor executive that wanted to cash in on the heritage of these two families. I am sure you know that life in a coal mining town in West Virginia is not the easiest. Money is tight. Realizing the potential of being able to go public and legit with our families moonshine, the two families agreed to work with the executive and a tv series to produce a reality show. The deal was, if they got a still built and a certain amount of moonshine made by a set date, the family would get their wish and have a legitimate moonshine label with the advertising and marketing expertise by professionals to help get it out there in the market. Problem is, the Executive and the TV Series dooped the family. They literally took the name of the families, Hatfield and McCoy and made money off of the show ratings, as well as then and now, saying that our family can never make moonshine legally cause they put a trademark on our names. There is more to the story, but the idea my friends, is that small town America was scammed and financially taken for by Corporate America. For generations, people have sought out to find and purchase the family moonshine. It is a part of the family history, legend, and at times financial income. Now, a rich liqour exec has come and threatened to sue my family members for every thing they have if they try to make on quart of our moonshine. This out of state, (and not a member of the family on either side), is now selling tshirts, moonshine, etc making money off of our familys name and story. It might not be as interesting as the Border Crisis, and perhaps it isnt as exciting as the news in Ferguson... but an injustice has been done to all Hatfield and McCoy descendants. Simple people have been taken advantage of by the big corporation types.. money has bought a family name. The family is intending on fighting, and will continue to make the family moonshine despite the threats. This is a David and Goliath story.. and its my family so I have an even greater interest and feeling about it. The video linked here is Mark. Take a moment of your time and share if you will.
