This is a delightful book which at first I didnt enjoy, it just grew on me and I ended up loving it. It is a book with great depth and interest, subtle humour and so poignant. You find yourself laughing out aloud at times. The story takes place in a housing community somewhere in Sweden. OVE is a man who sees the world in black and white -- his only colour, his wife Sonia -- has left this world. After 59 year old Ove is laid off from his job, he realizes that he really does have no reason at all to live and it is time to join his recently deceased wife. He plans out his suicide attempts methodically to create as little mess as possible, but each attempt is thwarted as he winds up having to help other people who are all incompetent (in his eyes). Fredrik Backman’s debut novel is charming and delightful. It is a story that will warm your heart, as much as it is a story that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Highly recommended and 5 stars from me. You will love it!
