This is a design for a kindergarten on a small plot on the south western outskirts of Nairobi. The client needed a design that aesthetically appeals to children and is correctly scaled yet durable. While choosing to organize the design functionally around a central courtyard due to severe spatial limitations, the architect employed bright color, monopitch roofs and fenestrations of different types and placements to directly answer the clients brief. The overall form was generated by arranging volumes rhythmically to reflect relationships of internal functions as well to reveal the hierarchy of served and servant spaces.
